On Thursday, March 11, 2021, the Lord welcomed Chuck Oakes into his loving arms.
Charles (Chuck) Lee Oakes III was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 21, 1949. He grew up in Seattle, Washington, and Cotulla and San Antonio, Texas where he graduated from Burbank High School and the University of Texas at San Antonio with a BBA in Finance.
Chuck worked for Tesoro Petroleum, Valero Energy Corp. and ultimately USAA from 2001 to 2016 where he retired. He was the IT Technical Director for Research and Development for twelve of the years he was with USAA. As the Chief of Innovation, he was granted over 118 U.S. patents with many more patents pending. Chuck was a great working partner, a friend and mentor to many at USAA.
Chuck was an avid golfer and volunteer with the Valero Texas Open for many years. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was a faithful servant in his church for over 40 years. Chuck’s family was very important to him, especially his wife Michelle, his daughter Julie, and his friend of over 63 years, Randy Pullin.
Chuck is survived by his wife Michelle, his daughter, Julie Michelle Brown, Jennifer Thompson (stepdaughter), William Thompson (step grandson), brothers Barry (Mindy), Frankie (Evelyn), sister Jayne Oakes as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Charles Lee Oakes Jr. and Margret Hansen Oakes, and siblings Tommy and Roger Oakes. Chuck will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
