It is with heartbreaking sadness we announce that Christine Kathryn Coulter, 51 of Portage, suddenly passed away on February 4, 2021.
Chris was born on September 20, 1969 to Ron Schmellmeyer and Patti Robart.
Living are her sons James and Tyler Kienbaum, her loving husband Joe Coulter, step children Joe II and Leah Coulter. Also her parents who cherished her deeply Patti (Dennis) Robart Rautanen and Ron (Tammy) Schmellmeyer, her siblings Wendy Brandt and Renee (Eli) Deyarmin, and Lauren (Joe) Valenzano and many extended family members.
While Chris was born in Van Wert, OH, she has lived in Portage, MI since 1970. She attended Portage Central High School and went on to earn a degree in Dental Hygiene from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Chris has worked for Dr. Scot Stromstra DDS for almost 30 years where she cared deeply for her patients.
Chris was beautiful in every way possible. Her activities always were centered on her boys and family. She was the “team” mom and house where all the friends went to hang out. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and wife.
Chris’ deep care for others expanded to her closest friends, those she worked with, and those who benefited from her endless generosity of time. We all cherished hearing her laugh, her random acts of kindness to others and seeing her smile light up a room. She enjoyed the peacefulness of watching all the neighborhood wild birds that visited her bird feeders. We will miss her enthusiastic cheers for Notre Dame football. Her legacy will continue through her greatest joy and achievement in life, her boys. She will be greatly missed by all those who called her family or friend.
