Christine D. Christ, 91, of Anderson Indiana was reunited with her beloved husband, George on Thursday afternoon, February 12, 2015. Christine passed away gracefully, with dignity and at peace in her home with her devoted daughter and constant companion Christy and her granddaughter, Shawnae by her side.

Born March 17, 1923 in Chicago, Christine was raised by loving and faithful Greek Orthodox parents, Jenny and James DeDakis, who emigrated from Greece. She grew up in the city of Chicago and lovingly helped her parents and her three younger siblings during the trying times of the Great Depression. It was during this time that her strong character was developed and nurtured. Her faith in God was deep and unyielding, and carried her through her beautiful, yet at times difficult journey of life. Christine met her husband George, of Anderson, Indiana in 1941 It was love at first sight.

They were married in Chicago in 1945 and began their life together in Anderson IN, where Christine has resided since. The two of them carried on the strong faith instilled in them by their parents, and they raised their six children with loving guidance. Family was the most important aspect of Christine’s life. As a mother of six, she managed to work as a secretary at Community Hospital, and still have homemade magnificent Greek dinners on the table for her family every evening. In 1973, she and her husband became supervisors at the Madison County Home, tending to the needs of society’s less fortunate, caring for them as if they were part of the family. Heartbreak was not absent in Christine’s life.

She and George lost their dear son, James at the young age of 20. A few years later, George passed away just as suddenly. Christine also endured the loss of her precious granddaughter Tiffany at 18 months of age, and her sweet grandson Alex at the age of 15. Throughout all of this, it was Christine’s faith and her loving family that kept her strong and centered. She had amazing resilience, wit and charm. She was always kind and giving, yet she was never afraid to speak her truth, a truth that more often than not needed to be heard. Christine remained active and joyful in her later years. She worked for her brother in law, John Christ, at JC sales for close to twenty years.

She spent several months each year visiting her youngest son Wil and his family in Arizona, and regardless of where she was or who she was with, her presence and her devotion to family was ever apparent.

Christine is survived by her two sisters, Angie Revis and Georgia Poulos of Chicago, IL; her brother, Bill DeDakis of Chandler, AZ; her sons, Terry (Marthea) of Richmond, IN, George (Goli) of Austin, Texas, Tom (Debbie) of Anderson, IN and Wil (Tracy) of Flagstaff, AZ; and her daughter, Christy (Pete) of Anderson, IN. Christine was blessed with 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and several adoring nephews and nieces.
