Christina Gyrion, 66, suddenly passed away of natural causes on January 26, 2017. She and her husband were in Tampa celebrating their 40th anniversary. Up until her very final moments, she was in great spirits while engaging in one of her favorite pastimes at the Hard Rock Cafe.
She leaves behind her husband of forty years, Virgil Lee Gyrion; her daughter, Sylvia Florence Gyrion; and her beloved dog, Brody. In addition to immediate family, she is survived by six siblings, countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws, most of whom do not live locally.
Christina was born and raised in Crete, Greece, and had lived in the Jacksonville area since moving here with her husband and young daughter in the early 80s.
Christina took immense pride in taking care of her home, garden, and those whom she loved. An extremely passionate and charismatic woman, she maintained many of the traditions of her Greek heritage. Christina was an intensely compassionate, sincerely empathetic woman with a generous heart. These characteristics were displayed in her hobbies, interests, and interactions with others. Christina went out of her way to give to those in need, often bringing food and giving money to homeless individuals whom she encountered. A woman with a great sense of humor, her laughter was hearty and infectious, captivating those around her. An enthusiastic and talented cook, Christina relished in sharing the meals she prepared with others, and emphatically savored her favorite foods.
