Obituary of Christ N. Kontenakos

Age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Mendota Heights, MN, on August 7, 2016. Born May 26, 1940, the oldest of 4 boys, he came to the US at age 12. In 1963, he married his loving wife, Antonia, in Greece and they settled in St. Paul, MN the same year. Christ served in the U.S. Naval Air Force from 1964-1967. He then worked in the Corporate Purchasing Dept. for Valspar, and retired after 37 years. He was a lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where he served over 30 years on the Parish Council (2 terms as President), Greek School Director, GOYA Director, girls’ basketball coach (10 years), and numerous committees. He will be remembered by many as the greeter at St. George and for his tireless work at the festivals. He was actively involved in the AHEPA Pericles Chapter #270, serving two terms as Supreme Governor and was a member of the American Legion Hellenic Post #129. Preceded in death by wife, Antonia, brothers Ted and Peter. Survived by daughters, Angie and Stamatia, and grandson, Zachary. Godfather to Paul, Vasili, Panayioti, Misael, Antoni, Andrania, Theodora, Vanessa, Penny, Sofia, Dan, and Jon. Service 11:00 AM Monday, August 15 at ST. GEORGE GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 1111 Summit Ave., St. Paul.
