Chrisjaan Domonique Whitson was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 18, know him was to love him.
Chrisjaan was bright, witty, articulate and had a charming, million-dollar smile. He was a precocious child, constantly asking questions and astounding adults with his intellect and conversational skills.
He attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, where in Kindergarten, he received his first academic honors achievement award. Chrisjaan continued to achieve such accolades throughout the years and graduated with honors from Cathedral High School in 2010. He went on to attend college at Indiana University in Bloomington and IUPUI.
From an early age, he was an avid football fan and started playing football for the Police Athletic League when he was 8 and continued until he was 13 years old. Chrisjaan “made the team” at Cathedral in his Freshman and Sophomore year and he also ran track, although serious injuries attained in both years curtailed those endeavors.
In his pre-teen years Chrisjaan became a member of Starfish Initiative, which is an organization that encourages. and prepares academically gifted students facing unearned adversity-for college and career success. He was also a member of Reach for Youth, which is an organization that serves troubled young people. Here, Chrisjaan served as a peer mentor to several teens and inspired many to focus on getting good grades in order to be the first in their respective families to go to college.
“Boy Wonder” (as he was called by one of his mother’s friends) had a passion for music and had a “golden voice”. Chrisjaan joined the Gospel choir at Cathedral and sang at various venues in Indiana along with his mates. He was also awarded a couple of awards for his amazing voice in his Junior and Senior year.
Inspired by one of his favorite rappers-Lil Wayne-when he was 18, Chrisjaan began to rap in order to enrich his skill set. He has lots of tracks on Sound Cloud and is referred to as Asavelli, Lordevelli, Asa, “Velli” and “CJ”.
Chrisjaan is deeply mourned by his devoted mother, Tanya Annette Martin and father, Stoney Louis Whitson, Sr.; paternal grandmother, Rubynell Whitson Lewis and maternal grandmother, Annette McGruder.
Chrisjaan also leaves behind his only sister, Nakeisha Whitson and 4 brothers, Stoney L. Whitson Jr. , Derriahn Whitson, Katrell Whitson and Raymond Johnson; aunts, Sheila Pruitt, Lawanda Whitson, Sonja Whitson, Rebecca Toler, and Regetta Whitson; uncles, Michael Joseph Green, Anthony Vincent Green, Barry Edward Green, Jerome Whitson, Tyrone Whitson and William Whitson and a two nieces and two nephews and a great number of cousins.
Lastly, but definitely NOT least, he leaves behind his beloved, beautiful girlfriend, Alexis and her very sweet daughter, Keira. (She lovingly called him “Perry” (the platypus)
A very special shout-out to his “sisters” and “brothers” from other mothers: Carrie Harvey, Natasha Williams Wallace, Ryan McClintock, Ronald Pierre McCombs, Akeem Dance, Jermaine Williams, and Will Harrington (USMC) not to diminish the many other friends and associates.
