On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, Chief John “Jack” Wilson Gouty of Hanover, Maryland passed away at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. He is survived by his cherished wife of 45 years, Margaret A. Gouty. Jack is also survived by his son Shawn Gouty, his two brothers, Michael and Gregory Gouty, and one granddaughter. He was predeceased by his son Andre Gouty.

Jack was born in Van Wert, Ohio to Harold and Josephine Gouty. He was a health facility planner for the Army, Navy, and Air Force for the Department of Defense. Prior to him being a planner, he was a retired Chief Warrant Officer grade 3 in the United States Army. While in the Army, Jack earned the Meritoriuos Service Medal (1OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon (3).

Jack was also heavily involved as a volunteer fire fighter for Anne Arundel County since 1959. He was Chief of the Jessup Volunteer Fire Company, President of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association, 1st Vice President of Maryland Fire Chiefs, 1sst Vice President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Eastern Division, the Maryland State Firemans Association, he was a board member of the Fire Fighters Cancer Foundation, a life member of the MD Fire Chiefs and he was inducted into the A.A.C.V.F.A. Hall of Fame. Jack also belonged to the American Legion Post 279 and was also very active in the Boy Scouts – Order of the Arrow.
