Chi-hui Ching Lu passed away peacefully in her sleep in her apartment at Independence Village. Her daughter was with her. She would have been 95 years old in a few months.
She and her recently deceased husband, Chung-tai Lu, were devoted to each other for 67 years. As a loving mother and grandmother, she enriched the lives of her family. She and her husband, who was a Professor of Economics, helped her family, friends, and university students, bridge the best of Chinese and American cultures. Chi-hui was an accomplished homemaker, and skillful seamstress and knitter. She loved gardening, growing houseplants, and she loved animals, especially dogs and cats.
She was born in China, and met her future husband when both were students at Fu Ren Da Xue (Catholic University of Peking). Both graduated in 1947 and travelled to the U.S., where they settled down, raised a family, and lived for 70 years. Her memories live on in her son (Christopher), daughter (Karen), son-in-law (Jeffrey), daughter-in-law (Helen), 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 3 granddaughters-in-law, and her relatives in China.
