Chester Lee Mathes was born December 9, 1944, to Lloyd and Bessie Mae (Bogaards) Mathes in Otley, Iowa.

Chet attended Greely Grade School and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1963.  He married Linda Hummel in November 1965 in Pella, Iowa and they were blessed with two children: Brenda and Brian; they later divorced. In December 1986, he was united in marriage to Judy Black in Littleton, Colorado.

Chet took great pride in his farming.  Gary Mathes told us that Chet started farming as a young child by baling Lincoln Logs on his bedroom floor with his toy tractor.   In 1992, he moved to Missouri and operated Hill City Creations.  He made beautiful wood items ranging from small frames to large pieces of furniture. His heart longed for the farm though and he was back at it after just a few years.  When he wasn’t in the field, he was on the dance floor.  Two-step, polka and waltz were among his favorites.

Those left to cherish his memory are his significant other, Marcie Bruinekool, his children: Brenda and Trent Brooks of Great Falls, Montana, and Brian and Michelle Mathes of Oskaloosa, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sharon and Ron Plate of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and his brother Gary and Shirley Mathes of Pella.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Bessie Mathes, his brother Vern Mathes, his sister Gertie Koopmans, his wife Judy and his grandson Dylan Mathes.
