Chester A. McDowell, 89, of O’Fallon, Ill., born December 14, 1917 in Arkansas, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill. Chester was a Shriner and retired from the Defense Department. He also served in the US Navy during WW II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester E. and Ella May Vaughn McDowell and 2 brothers, Wilmer (Hap) McDowell & Lawrence Edward McDowell.
Chester is survived by his wife Anastasia, nee Gitcho, McDowell of O’Fallon, IL, a daughter Cheryl and her husband, Dr. Roger Johnson of Kerrville, TX, a sister Gladys Vandaveer and her husband Zoe of Houston, TX, 2 granddaughters, Anne Catherine Savage of New York City, Abigail Elizabeth Savage of Baltimore, Maryland, nieces & nephews.
