Chester Manuel Moore, (known to many as “Sonny”) a long time resident of Marion, IN passed away at home on Thursday September 26, 2013 at the age of 78, in Bonita Springs Florida, where he had been residing for the last few years with his daughter, Frannie. Sonny was born October 22,1934, in Marion. He graduated from the Indiana School for the Deaf.
While at the Indiana School for the Deaf, Sonny was a star basketball player who went on to play semi pro ball for a short time. While attending school he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Belding Moore. They married on September 1, 1957. Together they had five children Michael Moore, Lisa Warren Indianapolis, IN, Terri (Jerry) Larkey IN, Frannie (Bob) Luther Bonita Springs, FL, and Rosie Thurman Fremont IN.
Sonny worked as a cabinetmaker and retired from Hartson Kennedy Cabinets in Marion.
A unique soul, Sonny was very funny and enjoyed playing practical jokes on family and friends. He loved all sports but he did have his favorites: basketball, football and Nascar racing. Sonny also had a love for his Deaf community where he served as Chapter President of the Indiana Association for the Deaf.He could always be found rallying people together to make sure the Deaf had access and were treated equally.
Sonny was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Moore, his wife, Barbara, his son, Michael, and his brothers Jack Eisenhart and Phillip Moore.He will be greatly missed by his 4 daughters, 12 Grandchildren, Jerriann McFarland, Michelle Eads, Josh Larkey, Matthew Case, Jacob Larkey, Nicole Moore, Mick Case, Jared Larkey, Jimmy Moore, JJ Faulkner, Jenna Thurman, & Jordan Larkey; 9 Great Grandchildren, Larissa, Brody, Taelor, Abigail, McHael, Noah, Hayden, Madi & Hunter.
Survivors also include his sister, Kaye (James) Draper FL, three brothers, Herman (Linda) Moore TX, and Steven (Linda) Moore, AZ, Larry (Linda) Hanley IN, foster brother, Lee David Hogue IN.
When Mommy passed she left her beloved dog Bob for Daddy and wherever one was, the other was close by. Bob was a ‘forever’ friend.
