Chester “Chet” Johnson Jr., 79, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, June 19, at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Elkhart to Chester Johnson Sr. and Alice L. (Carr) Johnson.

On Sept. 13, 1958, he married the late Frances A. Johnson. She passed away March 10, 2004.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy (Randy) Mockler of Middlebury; one brother, Warren (Dorothy) Johnson of Elkhart; one grandson, Christopher (Markee) Mockler of Robinson, Ill.; two great-grandsons, Shawn and Hunter; and one step-great-granddaughter, Anna.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, and four brothers.

Chester was employed as a punch press operator at Johnson Controls for many years prior to his retirement.

He often enjoyed spending time at his home at Jellystone Park in Pierceton, traveling, watching Western movies and baseball. Chester was an avid Civil War enthusiast and vinyl record collector and especially enjoyed ’50s music.
