Chester Clinton Sutton, 97, formerly of Best Avenue, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday (May 25, 2007) in Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart.
He was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Knot County, Ky., to Joseph and Sarah Jane (Colburn) Sutton. On April 3, 1950, he married Mollie Nobel in Vest, Ky. She preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 2007.
He is survived by two sons, Eugene (Alice) Sutton of Bristol and Tommy (Novella) Ritchie of Elkhart; one daughter, Audrey Kinnard of Dade City, Fla.; one sister, Gertrude Isom of Lake Worth, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Tom Sutton; one son, Elmer Sutton; one daughter, Lilly Faye Reynolds; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Sutton was employed with Bendix Corp. in South Bend for more than 20 years before retiring in the mid 1970s. He was an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan, and he loved to travel to Ocala, Fla., where he and his wife wintered. He enjoyed old-time gospel music and planting vegetables in his garden.
