Ms. Cherry J. McDonald affectionately known as “Mama Cherry” was born on October 29, 1956 in Decatur, Alabama to the late James and Rosa Hampton McDonald. She departed this life on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Hendrix Health and Rehabilitation in Double Springs, Alabama.
Mama Cherry was employed until her health failed by Medical Park and Trevecca Health and Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mama Cherry professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and later was baptized in the name of Jesus and attended the Living Way Apostolic Church in Town Creek, Alabama under the leadership of Bishop Ernest Clay until her health failed.
Mama Cherry will be remembered for her sternness as well as her unique loving and giving spirit by all who knew her and she touched the lives of many. She had a love for animals, plants and most of all, her family was her most pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late James and Rosa Jean McDonald and one brother, Barrie Casper Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Carlos D. McDonald of Decatur and Michael E. McDonald of Haverhill, MS; two daughters, Kristina M. McDonald and Terrie (Henry) Robinson, Jr. both of Decatur; four brothers, Pastor Robert (Roberta) Brown of Decatur, James Wayne (Connie) McDonald of Nashville, TN, Larry W. McDonald and Jameth (Sandra) McDonald both of Decatur; two sisters, Diane (Thomas) Jolly and baby sister who knew her as “Sister Mom”, LaRosa Kay Davis, both of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Alexis, Reshod, Benicka, Mya, Olandis, Delandis and Amarion; one great grandchild, Kyrin Bates; a devoted friend/sis. Doris McDonald; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends.
