Charlotte L. Stewart, 81, of Anderson, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly early Monday morning, October 14, 2013. She was born on April 25, 1932, in New Castle, IN, the daughter of Ralph and Dorothy Harvey Mathews.
Charlotte graduated from New Castle High School in 1950. She and her husband, Don would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary next month on November 14. She was a member of Markleville North Christian Church and a former member of the Madison County Ladies Shrine Club. Don and Charlotte enjoyed living in Mission, Texas during the long, cold Indiana winters. They had spent the last 18 years as “Winter Texans”. Charlotte was a full-time homemaker and enjoyed working on jig-saw puzzles and surfing the internet. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play Little League Baseball and Softball in Pendleton and Anderson.
Surviving to keep her memory alive are her husband, her children, Brenda David Shanafelt, Larry Stewart, and Nancy Kirk Staley. Also, surviving are her grandchildren, Jerimiah Short, Joshua Jilliann Short, Leslie Kyle Morris, Michael Shanafelt, Tiffany Timmy Crum, Lindsay Stewart, Cameron Stewart, Kaelyn Staley, and Alexandra Staley along with 6 great-grandchildren. There are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and Texas friends who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert, and 2 step-brothers.
