Charlotte (Bivens) Smith, 91, of Middletown, wife of the late William S. Smith, passed away on June 8, 2016 surrounded by her family at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Charlotte (Whitted) Bivens. Charlotte graduated from Camden High School and worked for Social Security Administration for many years before retiring. She relocated to Connecticut in 1993. She was a faithful missionary to family and friends. Charlotte will be greatly missed and always in our hearts. Charlotte leaves to cherish her memories; a loving daughter, Marlene Cockfield and her husband, Gilbert of Cary, NC; two grandchildren, DeMonte Cockfield of Alexandria, VA and Damara Cockfield of Washington, D.C.; a very special and devoted nephew, Raymond Townes (Virginia) of Middletown and a host of nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces and dear friends. Along with her husband and parents, Charlotte was predeceased by two sisters, Anna Mae Bryant and Pauline Bloodworth; one brother, Albert Bivens and a son, William Smith. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Hartford Hospital Hospice Care during Charlotte’s recent illness. We would also like to thank the staff, administration and fellow residents of the Luther Ridge Assisted Living Facility for their compassionate care and assistance to our beloved Charlotte.
