Charlotte Ann Smith, “Ann”, passed away on August 7, 2018 at the Lighthouse Senior Living facility in Ellicott City, Maryland after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 82 and is survived by her husband of 29 years Russell, her sons Joel Beckwith and wife Kathy Carpenter, Mark Beckwith and wife Sally Carlisle, and Paul Beckwith; her sister Linda and husband David Meade. She is also survived by her stepchildren Teresa, Douglas, and Brian Smith.
Ann was born in Catonsville, Maryland on November 15, 1935 to William Raymond Mackert and Margaret Strauff. Ann attended Catonsville High School where she graduated in 1953. She went on to study education at Towson State Teachers College, where she graduated in 1957. She was a longtime teacher in the Baltimore County School System and prior to her retirement in 1995, she taught English at Lansdowne High School. Her creative lesson planning is still remembered by students and teachers.
