Mr. Charlie Whisenhunt, Jr., affectionately known by his children and grandchildren as “Big Daddy,” departed this life on Monday, July 13, 2020. He was born in Mt. Vernon, AL, to the late Viola “Susie” Flott Whisenhunt and Charlie Whisenhunt, Sr. He is proceded in death by his wife, Eddie Mae Reed Whisenhunt and two brothers, Frank Whisenhunt and George Whisenhunt.
He possessed a very strong work ethic and was passionate about his family, church, and community. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Chastang, AL, where he served as a Knight of Peter Claver. He retired from Ciba Specialty Chemicals after 47 years of employment. He and his wife of 59 years were local business owners, and he served as president of the McIntosh Water Board for 18 years.
He leaves behind his six loving and devoted children, Karen (Marvin) Davidson; Debra (Lionel) Thomas; Brenda Poole; Charlie (Morgan) Whisenhunt, III; Christopher (Jennifer) Whisenhunt; and Carlos Whisenhunt; five brothers, Charles Whisenhunt, Melvin Whisenhunt, Ransom Whisenhunt, Herman Whisenhunt, and Jimmy Whisenhunt; seven sisters, Maggie Whisenhunt, Bessie Boston, Bernice Whisenhunt, Joann Andry, Mabel Whisenhunt, Shirley Adams, and Jackie Whisenhunt; three brothers-in-law, Napoleon (Faye) Reed, Sr.; Cleon (Cecilia) Brown, Sr.; and T.C. (Carrie) Reed, Jr.; a total of 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
