Charles Richard Wise, known to his friends as ‘Dick Wise’ passed away Thursday morning January 14th, 2010. He was surrounded by his faithful companion Webber 2 and his devoted daughters; Debbie, Gail and Sue.
Dick was born in his family home in the Township of Mayfield, Michigan, May 19, 1926 and was the third child of Charles Arthur Wise and Delia Campbell Wise.
Dick entered the Navy and began active duty on May 12, 1944 and trained at Nts Greats Lakes, Ill. He served as a sonar man on the USS Mertz, USS Guest (DD472) and the USS Remey (DD688). Dick received a Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign medal (3 stars), a Philippine Liberation Ribbon (2 stars) and an American Area Campaign medal. He was honorably discharged on May 22nd , 1946.
Dick married his sweetheart, Barbara Jean Bunn, in 1950. In 1956 he moved his family to Las Cruces, New Mexico where he worked at White Sands Missile Range, and retired in 1980. In 1975 Dick and Barbara Jean moved to Rincon, NM where they farmed for many years. He moved to Deming, New Mexico in the fall of 2005 to be closer to his daughters.
Dick was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He also belonged to several other service organizations. Dick loved reading, gardening, astronomy, rock hunting and hiking. He was a dogs best friend.
He is survived by his brother, Don Wise, sister Patricia Rcykman, three daughters, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, an infant son, three sisters and his parents.
