Charles William Morton of Eatonton, GA died August 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA. He was 91. Born on April 9, 1927, in McKenzie, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Charles Fitzhugh Morton and Ethel Inez Whitsitt Morton. He graduated from DeQuincy High School in Louisiana. On Oct. 3, 1948 he married the former Demetris Brown who preceded him in death in January of 2015. He proudly served his country in the United States Army/Air Force and the Merchant Marines. He was a refinery operator for Citgo Oil Refinery from 1951 until 1982. He also was the Assistant Business Agent for Operating Engineers in Lake Charles, LA retiring in 1985. In 2007 they moved from Lake Charles, LA to Eatonton, GA to be near their son and his family. Woodworking and gardening were his favorite hobbies but being with his family is what he enjoyed most.
He is survived by his son (Charles) Hugh Morton (wife Valinda Davidson Morton), two grandsons, Brett Morton (wife Melisa) and Chad Morton (wife Whitney) and two great grandchildren, Kallen and Harper. He is also survived by his sister, JoyLynne Smith Baker of Beaumont, TX, and a number of nieces and nephews.
