Charles W. Ring, 78, of Virginia, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 11, 2021, after touring his farm and reviewing his crops on Saturday morning.
He was born September 29, 1942, in Beardstown, IL, the son of William Arthur and Alberta Sweatman Ring. He married Barbara Burrus on October 13, 1963, and she survives.
Charlie is also survived by three children, Kevin (Mary) Ring of rural Virginia, Amy (Jim) Becker of Midway, UT, and Suzanne (Rob) Smith of Auburn; six grandchildren, Nathan (Jenny) Ring, Tyler (Nichole Licht) Ring, Rebecca Ring, Cole Smith, Carter Smith, and Levi Smith; two brothers, Dale (Vicki) Ring of Rushville and Wayne (Marilyn) Ring of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Beverly (Roy) Halstenberg of Chapin; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merle Ring; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Burrus (surviving wife, Lenabelle of Literberry).
Charlie was a 1960 graduate of Virginia High School and attended Gem City Business College. After college, he joined the Arthur Ring and Sons Implement Business beginning a distinguished career in agriculture. He was later engaged in his own Cass County grain and Angus cattle operation.
He formerly served on the Cass County Fair Board, Virginia School Board, and Cass County FS Board where he was involved in the merger of Bluff Springs Elevator, Cass County FS, and Mason County FS into Sunrise Ag. He also was a member of Virginia United Methodist Church, serving on various committees.
He loved to watch his grandchildren participate in their varied activities and enjoyed rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and Illini sports teams. Most of all, he had a passion for supervising farm operations and offering his sage advice.
