Charles W. Miller, 85, Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Born, on August 10, 1923, in Greensburg, Indiana, he was the son of Leo L. Miller and Ruth M. (Manning) Whiteford.
He retired in 1985 from the Indiana Gas Co. after 33 years. He worked as a pipeline welder and a heavy equipment operator. He also had worked for the NYC Railroad and was involved in construction work. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army Air Corps as a private in the military police.
He was a member of the Quarter Horses Association, the Tree City Saddle Club and the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Charles celebrated life through his love of horses and his grandchildren. He loved the west and rodeos, especially bull riding. He was a former stock car driver. He built and raced his own cars.
He was married to Kathryn Lois White on July 3, 1947 and she survives.
He is survived by one son, Chuck (Cheryl) Miller, Greensburg; three daughters, Brenda (William) Lawrence, Greensburg, Vickie (Larry) Bullard, Greensburg, Kathy (Warren) Milburn, Greensburg; two brothers, Leo (Helen) Miller, Jr., Greensburg, Larry (Betty) Miller, Greensburg; one step-brother, Robert L. Whiteford, Madison; two sisters, Dorothy (Orland) Hatfield, Cambridge City, Martha Jones, Greensburg; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Ralph Whiteford; two sisters, Elizabeth J. Land, Sarah Smith; one step-sister, Lois J. Hood; one step-brother, Donald E. Whiteford.
