Charles “Charlie” Trunkhill, age 72 of Algona, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Unity Point Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Charles Lee Trunkhill was born in Mason City, Iowa on February 15, 1948 to Mennet and Edith (Jandl) Trunkhill. Charlie graduated from Titonka High School in 1967. He furthered his education and attended NIACC and earned his AA degree. He was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart medal.

On May 1, 1971, Charlie was united in marriage to Vickie Leerar at the Britt Lutheran Church in Britt. Charlie was employed by Trunkhill Tiling, Redings Gravel and the City of Algona Street Department. He retired in 2010. Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, anything outdoors, wood working, riding his Harley to Sturgis, cheering on the Algona Football team and spending time with his grandchildren and following their sport activities.

Left to cherish Charlie’s memory are his wife, Vickie of 49 years; sons, Andrew (Jennifer) Trunkhill, Chad (Brenda) Trunkhill of Denison and Dustin (Shannon) Trunkhill of Algona; seven grandchildren, Noah, Micah, Isaiah, Payton, Ainsley, Allison, and Katherine and three step grandchildren, Eagan, Caleb, and Samantha; sisters, Noreta (Harold) Drab of Long Beach, CA and Catherine Hanson of Burt; brother, Thomas (Shila) Trunkhill of Plymouth and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; sisters, Marilyn Sydnes and Deloris Weston and brothers, Jack Trunkhill and Richard Trunkhill.
