Charles Steven “Steve” Elder, 64, of Lumberport, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at United Hospital Center following an extended illness.

He was born September 18, 1951 in Clarksburg, the son of the late Willard and Ruth Swiger Elder.

Charles is survived by his wife Sharon Fortney Elder and two sons; Troy A. Elder and wife Bobbi of Lumberport; Eric Elder and wife Melissa of Lumberport; ten brothers Dorsey “Bob” Elder, of Wallace, Tom Elder and wife Marie; Danny Elder all of Ohio; Donald “Dave” Elder wife Francie of Erie; Jack Elder wife Barb; Cecil Elder wife Jane of Dola; Dennis Elder of Sardis; John Elder and Dean of Florida; Billy Elder wife Nancy of Shinnston; June Elder wife Katie of Maryland; one sister Carla Elder; three granddaughters Alyssa, Samantha, Adriana Elder, one grandson, Austin Elder, three step grandsons Hunter, Levi and Brycen Moore, one great grandson Brady Swiger.

Preceded in death by his parents Willard and Ruth Elder, three brothers Carl “Cardy”, Richard “Rick” and Lee Elder; one sister, Shirley Hileman.

Charles graduated from Lumberport High School in 1971 where he played Basketball and Football, was the founder of the Lumberport Archery Club, an avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Lumberport Baptist Church and worked for Southern Ohio Coal Company, Martinka Mine in Fairmont for 20 years.
