CHARLES R. SHROPSHIREDec. 15, 1928-Sept. 13, 2016 SCHERERVILLE – Charles R. Shropshire, 87, loving husband, father and papa, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Franciscan Hospital Dyer, Indiana with immediate family by his side.

“Charlie” was born on December 15, 1928 in Andersonville, Tennessee to Walter & Marie (Anderson) Shropshire. On March 13, 1958 in St. John, Indiana, he was united in marriage to Audrey Pauline (Polly) Potter, who survives. Along with his loving wife of 58 years, Charles is also survived by his son Charles R. (Evelyn) Shropshire, Jr. of Portage, Indiana; daughter Patti Alden-(Mike) McKeough of Granger, Indiana, 3 granddaughters, Brittany and Chelsea Shropshire both of Wanatah, Indiana and Hayley (Coley) Moore of Indianapolis, a step-granddaughter, Brittany Morales and 2 step-grandsons, Brent and Brandon Lipkovitch all of Portage, Indiana, a special sister, Sue (Larry) Turner of Andersonville, Tennessee and an aunt, Nellie Beeler of Halls Crossroads, Tennessee as well as his beloved lap dog, “Diva”.

Charles was a veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1952-1954. He retired from LTV Steel, East Chicago, Indiana after 38 years of service and was a licensed barber. After retirement he combined his love of cars and negotiating as a used car salesman for Dave’s Classic Auto. He attended Lake Hills Baptist Church, Schererville, Indiana.

Charles was a hardworking man with a quiet, humble nature and a generous love for his family. As per his final wishes, there will be a private viewing for family only followed by cremation at Solan Pruzin Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Charles’s honor may be made to either Lake Hills Baptist Church, 9209 W. 85th Avenue, Schererville, IN 46375 or the Amvets are ilamvets.org
