Charles Robert Thorn, 85 of Birdscreek Road. Howesville passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011, at Heartland of Preston County. He was born in Howesville on October 11, 1925, son of the late Stanley and Kathleen Bolovich Thorn. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Martha Betty Huffman Thorn. Four sons, Charles Stanley Thorn and wife Alice, Morgantown, David Waitman Thorn and wife Connie, Finleyville, PA, Terry Lee Thorn and wife Kimberly, Howesville, Steven Ray Thorn and fiancée, Therese Dennihan, Gladesville; seven grandchildren, Cher Ann Lindquist, Ryan Charles Thorn, Jared W Thorn, David B Thorn, Justin L Thorn, Heather Thorn and Scott T Thorn; six step grandchildren, Pamela McDonald, Jennifer Voss, Loreen Beabout, Amber Hadley, Amanda Miller and Jessica Hankins; one great grandson, Davis Thorn, thirteen step great grandchildren, Christopher McDonald, Michael McDonald, Melissa Loya, Joseph Loya, William T Voss, Jessica Voss, Chelsea Beabout, Aaron Beabout , Lucas Beabout, River Miller, Dakota Hankins, Mia Hadley, and Christian Hadley; two step great great grandchildren, Hunter McDonald and Rilei McDonald; one sister, Jeanette Brozik, Bobtown, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Stella Halko, Blanch “Betty” Granato, Eleanor “Toots” Musick, Nancy Meleady; seven brothers, Felix “Bill” Thorn, Adam “Hawk” Thorn, Joseph “Joe” Thorn, Lee Thorn, Francis “Frank” Thorn, Walter “Buck” Thorn and Philip Thorn. Charles was in the US Army serving during WWII and he fought with the Third Army as a member of the 282 Combat Engineers. He retired from Island Creek Coal Company as a coalminer. He previously attended the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howesville. Charles enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, working the farm and cruising timber. Charles was a member of the VFW #578 Terra Alta Post.
