Mr. Ray Duffey, 79, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at his home in Newnan. He was born October 5, 1931 in Newnan to the late Ollie Roy Duffey & Gladys Stitcher Duffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Nutt Duffey. After high school he joined the Army and was one of its most versatile athletes. He played football & boxed at Ft. Jackson and was middleweight champion in 1949. Following his discharge, he signed with the Charlotte Hornets as a catcher. He also played minor league ball in Kentucky and New Mexico. When he returned to Newnan, he was active in Georgia Babe Ruth League as coach and manager and later became State Commissioner and league president. He was proud of his role in the organization and development of the Shrine Club Football League in Coweta. Survivors include children, Larry (Donna) Duffey, Kelly (Roy) Abercrombie, Bobby Ray Duffey, Thomas Edward (Debbie) Duffey, Jack Warren (Karen) Duffey; grandchildren,Jennifer(Jamie) Murphy, Bryan Duffey, Tyler Duffey, Katie Abercrombie, Drew Duffey, Madison Duffey, Katlyn Duffey, Leanne Duffey, Jack Warren Duffey, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Michael Duffey, Audrey Murphy; and sisters, Elsie Clark, Jean Hall.
