Nikiski resident, Mr. Charles “Chuck” Preston Johnson, 83, died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
He was born Feb. 12, 1935 in Steubenville, Ohio. He was an Army Staff Sargent who served 8 years in The Korean War. In 1969 he moved to Alaska living in Nikiski. Chuck worked 21 years as a FAAS Tug Boat Operator and Barge. He retired at the age of 55 from FAAS. Chuck loved hunting, fishing, and various other things. The family wrote, “Chuck was a longtime resident of Nikiski. He was a very well liked friend. He leaves behind Chuck Ceders, Becky and Stosh Puch, and Jerry Peterson Daryl Moore. He was a great father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. His stories will be missed. Always kept all the kids, and grandkids entertained.” He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Betty) Johnson; son, David P. Johnson and parents Ann and Charlie Johnson.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Skip) Poole of Sterling, and Denise Gordon of Seattle, WA; grandsons, Dusty (Brooke) Poole of Texas, Mark (Julie) Degner of Chicago, Illinois, and David England of Clearlake, CA; granddaughters, Summer (Bill) Durst of Sterling and Misty (Doug) Reger of Sterling and Laci Gordon of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, DJ Stilchen of Sterling, Dusty Poole of South Carolina, Doug Durst of Sterling, Shay Reger of California, Chase Poole of Soldotna, Paige Reger of Sterling, Brody Reger of Sterling, Piper Reger of Sterling, Marissa England of Seattle, WA, Noah England of Seattle, WA, Toby England of Seattle, WA, Nathan Degner of Seattle, WA, Sydney Degner of Seattle, WA, Malakhi Jackson of Seattle, WA, and Tzion Jackson of Seattle, WA.
