Charles Nelson Wahl (“Chuck”), age 89, passed peacefully of natural causes New Year’s Eve 2013 with Ruth Zachmann Wahl, his devoted wife of 64 years, and family members at his side.
Chuck is survived by his wife and four sons, Charles, Jeffrey, Robert, and Christopher, his sisters Elaine and Betty, and 6 grandchildren.
Born to a farming family on July 11, 1924 in Richmond, Michigan, Charles completed high school and immediately joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 at the age of 18. He fell in love with and married Ruth Zachmann (Wahl) on July 9, 1949, and the couple would share in the travels, triumphs and occasional hardships of a 30-year military career that spanned World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Charles Wahl resigned his commission as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1973 and began civilian life; earning college degrees and working in farm management, real estate and property management. Always a dedicated husband, father, and pet-lover; Chuck took great pride in supporting and nurturing his family toward their successes.
