Mike LePage, of New Milford, went home to our Lord on September 3. He died at Danbury Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Mike fought a valiant life-long battle with hydrocephalus with courage and dignity. Mike was born at Yale New Haven Hospital on May 18, 1976. At the time of his birth, doctors predicted Mike wouldn’t survive 24 hours. He proved them wrong. Throughout Mike’s life, he overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles with grace and humility. Mike was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. At a young age, Mike became interested in the World Wrestling Entertainment business. He enjoyed following the story lines and transformation of characters. Mike spent many enjoyable hours watching matches with his friends and later in life had the opportunity to travel to several main events. From those trips came many humorous stories and great memories for everyone. One of Mike’s first jobs was as a summer camp counselor with the New Milford Park and Recreation Department. Mike was known to take his new campers aside at the beginning of the summer and explain his disability to them in terms they could understand. He would then tell the children they could ask him any questions they might have. Mike wanted them to feel comfortable not only around him, but other individuals with disabilities, as well. Mike was a graduate of New Milford High School and Western Connecticut State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications. While attending WestConn, Mike was a reporter and writer for the school newspaper, The Echo. He was known for his creative writing style and critiques. During his school career, Mike was a commentator for numerous sporting events and was active in the theater arts department. One of his most enjoyable projects was directing a wrestling scene in the production As You Like It. Mike’s ultimate employment goal was to work as a writer for the World Wrestling Entertainment organization in Stamford, CT. Mike was a loyal Jets and Yankees fan and a sports trivia expert. There wasn’t a sports question he couldn’t answer or a player for whom he didn’t know the stats. We know that Mike is now in heaven playing baseball the way he always wanted to, or sitting with The Babe, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle laughing, joking, and discussing the Game. Throughout the years, when physical limitations prevented Mike from playing competitive sports, he channeled his interest into becoming a manager for several teams. Some of Mike’s favorite pastimes were helping neighbors, watching and attending baseball games, playing Fantasy Football, and having friends over to watch WWE and UFC bouts. He excelled at cribbage, a LePage tradition, and loved both playing and teaching the game to others. Thursday nights would find Mike and his mom watching Burn Notice with a minimum of one bowl of popcorn. Mike’s relatives and friends could always count on a phone call from him on their birthdays, anniversaries, and other important days. Underneath a sometimes gruff exterior, he was sensitive, thoughtful, and a good listener. In years past, Mike enjoyed speaking with his Nana about her beloved Mets –despite his allegiance to the Yankees. Mike shared his mother’s love of animals, caring for his beloved pets until deteriorating health prevented him from doing so. He will be greatly missed by his faithful companions. God constantly sent special guardian angels to help Mike and his mom along his journey. These angels know who they are. We thank each and every one of them from the bottom of our hearts. Their care, prayers, support, and warm wishes over the years made a sometimes difficult road a little easier to travel. Mike is survived by his mother, Laurie Rowe LePage of New Milford, with whom he made his home; father Charles LePage, Sr. and his wife Katherine of New Milford; two sisters: Emily Amendum and her husband Steve of Newark, Delaware; and Suzanne Rowe Wintner and her husband Tom of Cambridge, Massachusetts; four nieces and a nephew: Paige Crandall, Evan Grace, and Griffin James Amendum, and Virginia Rowe and Emily Anne Calhoun Wintner; paternal grandmother Dorothy LePage of Wilton, maternal aunt Maureen Shears and her husband Jeff of New Preston, great-aunt Anna Corrente Nees of Norwalk, grandparents-in-deed Geraldine and Jack Smith of Delaware, brothers-in-spirit Drew Peburn, Corey Wilder, Joe Andreoni, and Brian and Chris McEntee; dear friends and mentors Dr. Herbert Jannick, Herb St. Jean, and Dr. Ramon Batson.
