Charles Floyd McWatters (84), known as “Mac” to his friends, died March 7, 2008 at his home in Boerne, TX with wife and four daughters by his side. Charles was born in the small community of Flats in Rains County, TX on Dec. 9, 1923 to Charles Parker McWatters and Edna Pearl Flewellen McWatters. He graduated high school from Point, TX, where he played basketball. He returned to most of the annual Flat’s Community reunions where he had many good friends and fond memories. He served his country in the Army/Air Force during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946 for which he received various decorations and citations. He went on to college at East Texas State Teachers College where he met his wife, Eloise Boss, and earned his BS and Masters. They married and moved to Rio Grande City, TX where they both started their teaching careers. In 1951 they moved to San Isidro, TX where Charles served as School Superintendent for 28 years and raised their 4 daughters. In 1979 he retired to Zapata, TX where he owned McWatters’ Mobile Home Sales and was active as an Elder in The Zapata Church of Christ. Many people will remember Mac with his little black poodle companion of 17 years “Nanette” by his side. In 2001 they moved to Boerne, TX where they are members of the Boerne Church of Christ. Charles was a man of great humor, stories, wisdom and lived a life devoted to his family and to God. He enjoyed car racing, old Westerns, and any get-togethers involving family or friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and was the last survivor of his 8 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eloise Boss McWatters, 4 daughters, Linda Flores, Philda Boswell, Charlene Silva, Darlene Kilpatrick, and sons-in-laws, Al Flores & Peter Kilpatrick, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives.
