Charles McCabe, age 76, of Algona, Iowa died on Monday March 24, 2014 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Charles “Chuck” Patrick McCabe Jr., was born on December 15, 1937 in Des Moines, IA.

Chuck graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1956 and entered the workforce immediately with Equifax Services in Des Moines. Chuck married LaVonne Zinke in 1959 in Des Moines before being drafted in to the Army in 1960. He was honorably discharged in 1962 after serving two years in Germany as Tank Operator.

In 1962, he and LaVonne moved to Algona to continue his employment with Equifax, and earned his Bachelors Degree in Business from Mankato State University. He worked for Equifax until 1999, before accepting a job at Bishop Garrigan High School. He retired from Bishop Garrigan in 2013, where he culminated many friendships with faculty and students alike.

In his retirement, Chuck spent time driving school bus, and very much enjoyed the kids he had on his bus route. Chuck had a love for sports and a particular interest in Notre Dame Football, and Bishop Garrigan sports. Chuck also enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his family, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ardia McCabe; his brother, Jim McCabe; and his sister, Myrtle “Birdie” Stoops. He is survived by his wife, LaVonne; children Lori Roskam and husband Roger Roskam of Commerce Township, MI, Patrick McCabe and his wife Nichole of Ankeny and Jon McCabe of Northfield, MN; five grandchildren, Jacob and Devon Roskam, Carson and Hunter McCabe and Breanna Thompson; and two sisters, Catherine (Jim) Berry of Waukee and Rosemarie Bolton of Quincy, IL. Memorials may be made in Chuck’s name to Bishop Garrigan High School or Hodgkins Lymphoma Society.
