Charles Martin McDermott, 89, of Oglesby, has been called home and is the last generation of his siblings, on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Peru. Mr. McDermott was born January 21, 1932 in Clark County, MO to Francis Eugene and Mary Katherine (Baum) McDermott.
He served in the United States Army. He worked at World Color Press in Sparta, IL until retirement but his lifelong occupation was farming on the family homestead. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hunting mushroom and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Rita McDermott of Pinckneyville, IL, Gregory (April) McDermott of Oglesby, IL, Kevin McDermott of Pinckneyville, IL, Brian McDermott of St. Louis, MO, Morgan McDermott of Clinton, IA, Megan (Shawn) Shadle of Clinton, IA, Aaron (Andrea) Brandt of Belleville, IL, Michelle (Brian) Dickneite of Murphysboro, IL and Melissa Hapgood of Murphysboro, IL; eight grandchildren, Krista, Tara (Matt), Bruce (Marg), Cordell, Elizabeth, Cody, Casi and Natalie; six great-grandchildren, Michael, London, Sophia, Grayson and Cayden and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
