Charles Lyle Smith, fought the battle of cancer and COPD bravely, and passed on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at home.
He was born on December 8, 1946 to Grace & Harvey Smith, Sr., who precede him in death along with his sisters, Lorna & Debbie, and his brother, Rick.
Charles served in the United States Navy on the aircraft carrier America from 1963-1967. He retired from being a crane operator for 40 years and was reknown as being one of the best. In 2004 he moved back to San Benito to care for his mother, Grace and never left home again. In 2011 when his mother passed, Charles and his high school sweetheart, Donna’s paths crossed and were reunited.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna; son, Eric of San Benito & stepson, Harlan Perryman (Patty) of McAllen and stepdaughter, Dawn Cox (Josh) of Kansas City. He was a loving grandpa to Savanah & Jake Smith of South Carolina; Logan, Gavin, & Cheyenne Perryman of Weslaco & Colton Younker of Kansas City. Also, surviving him are his brothers, Arthur (Denise) of San Benito, Harvey Jr. (Shirley) of Houston, & sister-in-law, Debbie Smith of San Benito. Charles had several nephews & nieces, one of which was Shawn, who was a loving care giver for her Uncle Charlie.
Charles will be terribly missed by not only his family, but also his good buddies, Nick & Rico who were devoted friends.
