Charles Lindbergh Copeland, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 9, 2014. Chuck was born on March 9, 1928 in Kershaw, SC to the late Benjamin and Mary Copeland. After graduating from Kershaw High School, Chuck served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Guam during World War II. In 1952 Chuck graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Chuck was a retired U.S. Air Force Major and served in various locations in the U.S., Spain, Turkey, and Australia on special assignments in the field of seismology detection. Chuck is survived by two sons, Jon Copeland (Penny), Commerce, GA and Jeff Copeland, Newnan, GA and grandson Brandon Copeland (Jennifer) and great-granddaughter Hayden Copeland, Toccoa, GA. He is also survived by his sister Abbie Ruddy, Mt. Pleasant, SC; brother, Marshall Copeland, Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Barbara Copeland, Florence, SC; five nephews; and a number of cousins. Other survivors include his special family James and Chrystal Kelley and children Elliott, Marshall, and Kayleigh, all of Commerce, GA. Chuck was predeceased by his wife Betty Deats Copeland, his second wife Gwen Peete Copeland, and brother Joe F. Copeland. After his career in the Air Force, Chuck worked twenty years in the field of accounting and lived in Temple Terrace and Zephyr Hills, FL. He moved to Newnan in 2002 and was a faithful member of Heatherwood Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a leader in the senior group ESP. In 2014 Chuck moved to Baptist Manor in Palmetto, where he enjoyed living and making many special friendships. The family expresses its sincere gratitude to Penny Copeland, Chuck’s daughter-in-law, who lovingly took care of Chuck during his illness and others who also assisted.
