Charles Leroy Beal, 80, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at his home in rural Mt. Vernon. He was born Dec. 18, 1938, in Texico, son of the Rev. Roy and Ruby (Tinsley) Beal. He married Phyllis E. Collins on March 29, 1959, at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Beal is survived by his wife; a daughter, Connie Kramer of Galesburg, Illinois; two sons, Gregory, and wife Missy of Walnut Hill and Michael of Salem; seven grandchildren, Nathan Kramer of Galesburg, Illinois; Heather and husband Mike Bourell of Geneseo, Illinois; Maria Marshall, Morena and husband Chris Hopkins, and Michael Beal Jr., all of Centralia; Jeffery Beal and wife Kelsey of Woodlawn and Brittany Beal of Salem; a sister, Effie Mae Austin and husband Chalon of Texico; a brother, Wayne, and wife Mary Ann of Dix; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth “Bus” and Zola Collins; one brother, Edwin Lee Beal; and sister-in-law, Viola (Bandy) Beal.

Mr. Beal served with the Illinois National Guard, attaining the rank of sergeant, and was a businessman, operating Tru-Life Taxidermy and Beal TV. He was an avid outdoorsman and was particularly fond of fishing.
