Charles Lee Shepherd, 84, of Ottawa since 1946, passed on to heaven, Monday, September 5, 2011, at the Ottawa Regional Hospital & Healthcare Center. Charles was born July 3, 1927 in Notasulga, Alabama to Walter and Mary Elizabeth (Purvey) Pollard. He married Anna W. Mathews, the mother of his six children.
She passed away November 23, 1989. Charles accomplished many wonderful things during his life. He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for forty years, as an automotive mechanic. During his life, he constructed several homes and made significant contributions to the community of Ottawa.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Purvey; his second wife, Virginia; two sons, Walter Lee Jack (Shirley Ann) Shepherd and Russell (Melissa) Shepherd; three daughters, Shirley Faye Shepherd, Aretha Denise(Gregory) Ashley and Tammy Lynn Bridges; thirteen grandchildren, Vechel, Hillary, LaTonia, Kyra, Terrel, Jaleel, Jeramie, Stephanie, Jessica, Aliya, Cameron, Breann and Raven; four great-grandchildren, Jayden, Zaylynn, Jalaya and Kyana, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter; his first wife, Anna and their eldest child, Mary Ann Jaynes and three grandchildren, Christopher Shepherd, Deonna Williams and Lance Berry.
