Charles L. Phelps, 87, of Spotswood, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 5, 2023.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Charlie lived in Newark and Middlesex County before settling in the Clearwater Community of Spotswood in 1981. He worked for more than 25 years as a plate stripper and plate maker for New Jersey Office Supply in Newark before retiring in the late 1980s. For a few years after his retirement, he continued to work part time for a few more years. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens. He enjoyed bowling at the former Mid-State Bowl, playing in the father and son league. For many years, he coached and managed little league with the East Brunswick Baseball League.
Predeceased by his mother and step-father, Mamie and Roland Yakel and his step-daughter Carolyn Fahy, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen Phelps; his children, Charles M. Phelps and his wife Kimberly, Steven C. Phelps and his wife Tami and Monique Phelps and her husband Patrick McFarland; his step-children, George Arrants and his wife Mary and Kenneth Arrants; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and; his faithful canine companion, Phoebe.
