Charles Joseph Romero of Greeley and formerly of Brighton transcended this earthly plane and went home to be with his Lord on April 9, 2019. Charlie died after a month-long fight with stomach cancer. Charlie was the first son and second child of Esther Romero Barela and John Romero. He was born in Denver, Colorado on June 8, 1951.
Charlie attended school in Brighton from pre-school through high school, graduating in 1969. While in school Charlie was an excellent student-athlete, competing in football and wrestling. Charlie was awarded scholarships and grants that allowed him to continue his education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. It was while at CU that Charlie met and married Rosie Gomez, a fellow student from Denver, Colorado. Together they became the proud parents of two daughters; Danielle Ann Romero and Amanda Marie Sarrazin. Charlie and Rosie later divorced.
Charlie worked at the United States Post Office in Brighton for many years, where he was the Union Steward. Charlie fell in love with Harley Davidson motorcycles and throughout the years owned and rode many. He would ride to Arizona, California and Nevada. He met and kept many friends he met on these excursions.
He lived a hard life but made the most of it. Several years ago he welcomed Jesus Christ into his life and when diagnosed on March 10th, he readily accepted that his disease would soon claim his life. He asked for prayers, not to get well but to hasten his transition to his heavenly home. His daughter Amanda and his sisters Barb and Diane were his caretakers in his final weeks.
Charlie is survived by his daughters Danielle Romero, Amanda Sarrazin, grandchildren; Addison Backer, Elijah Sarrazin and Aidan Knispel. Additionally, he is survived by his friend and ex-wife Rosie Gillard. Other survivors include his sisters; Barbara Gallegos, Diane Romero, Patricia Romero and Yvette Bills as well as numerous other family members and good friends, especially his best friend Tito Suazo.
