Charles Herschel Smith 94 passed away October 4, 2011. Born December 20,1916 in Pearson, Georgia to Lucy Lorena Henderson and Charles Henry Smith. He was one of six children survived by sister Mary Jane Valentine, predeceased by his sisters Edith, Eddie Mae, Pauline, and brother Raymond. He together with Claire Pare Smith had two sons, Charles Alan (Liz), predeceased by Robert Dennis. He is survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He enjoyed good health, his family, country dancing, motorcycles and his work as a Certified Dental Technician. While serving in the he was assigned to a submarine detection crew in the Atlantic. His final duty station was U.S. Naval Hospital, Norfolk, VA. He worked for Esso Oil Company in the Caribbean and then established A & D Dental Laboratory in Miami FL until retirement. He resided at the Alexander Nininger State Veterans nursing home for the last three years where all the former military residents loved his positive outlook on life. His beaming smile, kindness to all and example throughout his life will be greatly missed. “We are all so lucky” he would say and we truly were in the way he touched lives.
