Charles Henry Carman, 84, died suddenly at a local hospital on March 5th with his family by his side.
He was born March 26, 1931 in Idaho Falls and was the third child of Melvin Lee and Chestean Carman. His siblings were Helen Carman and Melvin Carman. The family moved to Boise in 1948 and he graduated from Boise High School in 1949. He received a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Idaho and he was affiliated with the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After graduation, he joined the Army and spent two years active duty in Germany and 20 years in the Army Reserve, where he retired a Major in the 301st Engineering Battalion. After returning from Germany, he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation where he was instrumental in establishing their first data processing center.
Chuck’s interests included building and racing sports cars, flying airplanes, and downhill skiing. Although he was known as a quiet man, he loved adventure. He also had a passion for wood working and building. His retirement project was building their vacation home in New Meadows where they lived part time for 25 years. He truly loved the mountains of Idaho.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary and daughters Jan Kerfoot, Holly (Mike) McDonald, and Martha Brocke. He has six grandchildren, Matthew Kerfoot, Whitney (Tyler) Duke, Joe McDonald, Sarah Brocke, Eric Brocke, and Lauren Brocke, three great grandchildren, Avery, Owen, and Evynn Duke, and nieces Marilyn (Tom) Del Pozzi and Susan Dunavan.
