Charles H. Baker, 79, of Ottawa, died on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his home.

Charlie was born on September 28, 1934 in Ottawa, to Everett and Helen (Briel) Baker. He was a graduate of Marquette High School, and served in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He married Elaine Leslie on November 1, 1997. Charles worked for Illinois Bell, AT&T and Lucent. He also owned his own company, Ameri-Tel. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, 2 daughters, Julie (Barry) Ramsey, of Champaign and Jamie (Russ) Bennett of Ottawa, 3 grandchildren, Jacob and Clare Ramsey and Nicholas Bennett, 4 step-children: Toni (Mike Keeney) Van Laarhoven, of Aurora, Traci (John Myers) Van Laarhoven-Myers, of Aurora, Steffanie Van Laarhoven, of Peru, and Michael (Stacy) Van Laarhoven, of San Diego, California, 7 step grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Jeremiah, and Jordan Myers, Jenna and Mikaela Keeney and Buck Van Laarhoven, 2 sisters Mary Jo Hill, of Marseilles, and Marcia Burke, of Ottawa and 2 brothers Paul and James (Joanne) Baker, both of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith “Tillie” (Tillman) Baker, and a brother Emmett.
