He was born October 27, 1925 in Otterville, IL; the son of Gerald H. and Dora C. Kirchner Griffin. He married Leona E. Day on September 4, 1954 in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on May 7, 2010.

He is survived by a son, John A. Griffin (wife, Mary) of Mauldin, SC; three grandchildren, J. Travis Griffin (wife, Marlana) of Mauldin, SC, Audra Wallace (husband, Michael) of Simpsonville, SC, and Allison Griffin of Mauldin, SC; four great grandsons, Tyler, Charles, Ethan and Gabe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Grover, Bernice Baptist and Ethel Harris.

Mr. Griffin served with the US Navy in the Asia/Pacific Theater during WW II. He owned and operated an auto body repair shop for several years and later worked for other shops and dealerships until his retirement. After retiring, Charlie worked in building maintenance for School District 117 at Eisenhower Grade School and Jacksonville High School. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, VFW Post #1379, American Legion Post #279, Amvets Post # 100, and Moose Lodge #865, all of Jacksonville.
