WALLINGFORD – Charles G. Crump III was born in Wallingford, Connecticut on December 23, 1916 to Herbert Augustus Crump, and Charlotte Sophia Barton Crump. He lived his whole life in Wallingford, but traveled often to Montana, Wyoming, and England.
After finishing high school he took a bus to Montana where he spent the first of many summers working on the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch. After a sojourn in California, where he worked for Lee Duncan, owner of Rin Tin Tin, he came back to Connecticut to work in his father’s printing shop.
In 1943, while he was serving in the Coast Guard, he married Janet Hall. When the war ended he started a career in the stock market that lasted until October 2010. During those years he managed accounts for many clients, held a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, and wrote and broadcast a market report called “Boardroom Comments”.
He was a tireless volunteer in the Wallingford community, serving for years on the School Board, and other boards such as the Dime Savings Bank and the Meriden Hospital. He helped start the Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department, and his children and grandchildren can remember him rushing from bed in the middle of the night when the fire department siren sounded.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Charlotte Collins. He is survived by his children, Kirtland Hall Crump and Carol Crump Bryner and her husband Alex, grandchildren Paul and Mara, four great-grandchildren, Henry, Aine, Aubrey, and Stephen, and many nieces and nephews.
