Charles Geatty Petry, age 95 formerly of Westminster died Saturday April 24, 2010 at The Manor Nursing Home in Lakeland, Florida. He was born March 14, 1915 in New Windsor, MD the son of the late Charles G. and Mary E. ‘Bessie” Moore Petry. He was their only child. He was the husband of the late Bertie Dutterer Petry who died in 1990 and his second wife, Anna Clark Petry.
He was a graduate of New Windsor High School, Class of 1934
He worked 33 years as an office manager for the Coca Cola Co. in Westminster and was fondly referred to as “Pete”.
He was a member of the Westminster Gideons, Kathleen Masonic Lodge, #101 Woodlawn Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite of Valley of Tampa, Shrine Club of Lakeland, Florida and Egypt Shrine of Tampa. He also was an active member and past president of the Westminster Lions Club. He was a member of The Church of the Open Door before leaving Westminster and in Lakeland he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lakeland. He resided at Carpenters Estates in Lakeland, where he ran the gift shop for a number of years. He enjoyed working at the Detroit Tigers Spring Training games selling popcorn for his lodge. He played golf, beginning the game at the age of 78.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Armand C. Vasco of Powhatan, Virginia; granddaughter and husband, Karey Ann and William T. Johnson and great-granddaughter, Mabry Ann Johnson all of Midlothian, VA.
