Charles Garland Logsdon, better known as “Loggie” was born just South of Lucas, Lucas County, Iowa, October 19, 1920, to Charles Wesley Logsdon and Bertha (Caviness) Logsdon. His father passed away in July 19, 1929. Garland attended school at White Oak, North Star, Red Wing, and Lucas Schools until 8th grade when he quit school to find employment to aid with family finances. While he worked for the CB&Q Rail Road, he, his wife, Willa May (Storm) Logsdon, and their first child, Dixie, lived in a bunk car on the rail road. He then took a job at Johnson’s Machine Works. Later he worked as an iron worker until 1970 when a back injury caused by a fall made him unable to continue work. For as long as he was able he was an avid sportsman: coon hunting, fishing, bowling and gardening. He received many trophies over the years in coon hunting and bowling.
He bowled for many years, even after he was declared legally blind. How, you say? He was still able to see the spots on the floor. He said he always used the spots and never looked at the pins when he could see perfectly well, so why stop bowling now? Willa May and Loggie enjoyed many years camping and motorcycling, making many new friends.
Loggie and Willa May had four children: Dixie (Larry) Briggs, Chariton, Iowa, Chuck (Tena) Logsdon, Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Dana Crittendon, Pilar Logsdon, Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Willa May, brother, Jesse Logsdon, and sisters Betty Toben, Emma Spencer, daughter, Dana Crittendon, and a grandson, Trevor O’Brien.
He is survived by a brother, Gerald Logsdon, California, three children, eleven grandchildren, many great grandchildren.
