Charles Green Ashmon, son of the late L. T. Ashmon and Louise was born in Montezuma, Georgia on May 11, 1929. On Tuesday, June 5th, 2012, Charles transitioned this life at Providence Hospital when the Lord delivered him from all of his pain and called him to his heavenly home.
Charles received his education in Montezuma, Georgia Public Schools. After school, he made a decision to join the United States Army where he became a part of an elite unit, Special Ops (Operations). He served in the military for 4 years. After his service in the United States Army, he relocated to the District of Columbia where he began a career with the Washington Gas Light Company. After 30 years of service, he retired and made Washington, DC his home for 60 years.
Bro. Ashmon accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior after relocating to DC and joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Family under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. David Durham. He was a faithful member for 32 years serving diligently on the MSBC (Mt. Sinai Baptist Church) Usher Board. He valued being a gatekeeper for the Lord and he loved his church family.
Mr. Ashmon had a love for gardening and during the springtime, you always heard him discussing his garden and what he had planted. When it was time for harvesting, he would faithfully bring and share his bounty with his church family. Charles was also a Chef in his own right and he knew he could cook. He would always prepare breakfast for himself on Sundays and he would sometimes share with others. He had a giving spirit. Charles had a since of style when he dressed, whether casual, church, or formal, everything was always in place even down to his socks and shoes, and of course the hat.
He leaves to mourn; one son, James Leon Keen (Cynthia); four grandsons; James Jr. (Keshia), Jeffrey (Sabrina), Ricardo, and Charles; one granddaughter; Ashley; fifteen great grandchildren, all of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of relatives and devoted friends.
