Mr. Charles F. Siede, III
, 73, of North Arlington departed on Sunday December 20, 2009 in St. Marys Hospital in Passaic.
Charlie was born in Rochester, NY. He lived in Kearny for many years. He later moved to Colesville, NJ and lived there for 20 years before moving to North Arlington 10 years ago.
Mr. Siede was an owner operator of several gas stations through out New Jersey.
His first was a Hess Gas Station in Kearny, then Lyndhurst and then in Newton. After, he purchased a Gulf Station in Montague, NJ. He was still working at the time of his death at the Pit Stop Gas Station in Kearny which was actually his first Hess station.
Charlie graduated from Kearny High School in 1954 where he earned his varsity letters in football and tennis. After graduating he attended Bucknell University where he earned a B.A. in Business in 1958. While at Bucknell he was the captain and the #1 singles player for the men’s tennis team. He was also proud of his membership in the traveling glee club and the Lambda Kai Alpha Fraternity. He also served in the Army through the ROTC program while at Bucknell.
Charlie’s first love was the 7 clay tennis courts in Kearny known as the Arlington Players Club where he and his family have been active member for over 80 years. He was particularly proud to be at and part of the club’s 100th anniversary gala this past October. Charlie could always be seen at the club playing tennis, helping the younger members or working on the grounds. His smile and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
Charlie is survived by his brothers Stanley of Bonita Springs, Fl and David of Naples, Fl and his aunt, Mrs. Norma Hosker of North Arlington.
