Charles Eugene Kniceley, I, age 64 of Lost Creek, WV passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 at UHC after an extended illness. He was a devoted husband, dad, papaw and brother.

Charles was born in Braxton County, WV on July 19, 1952, the son of Freda Williams Kniceley and the late Robert Kniceley of Fairmont, WV. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Charles E. “Charlie” Kniceley, II, Gregory Scott Kniceley and Robert Rufus Kniceley.

Mr. Kniceley is survived by his wife of 44 years, Debbie Vanhorn Kniceley whom he married on November 18, 1972, in Lost Creek. He is also survived by his daughter, Becky Layton & her husband, Edward of Clarksburg, WV; grandchildren, Brittany Kniceley, Kayla Kniceley, Tristan Kniceley, Lyndsey Layton, Chase Kniceley, Lizz Drummond, Eddie Layton and Eric Layton. Great grandchildren, Briley and Hudson Hanlan. Sister Gladys Kotrys and husband, Mike, of Buffalo, NY, brothers Howard Kniceley and wife Donna, of Weston, James Kniceley of Buckhannon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Charles graduated from South Harrison High School in 1970. He then enlisted in the United States Army, stationed in Washington, DC. Before retiring, he was employed at Shuttle Rose, T.K. Stanley and enjoyed delivering newspapers.

He coached Little League Baseball when his sons played. He was an avid fan of all South Harrison sport, and served as records keeper for the high school girl’s softball team and was lovingly called “Papaw” by the players. He was a big fan of WVU Mountaineers football and basketball, and, of course, his Saint Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding four wheelers and spending time with the family.
