Charles Williams was born September 23, 1919, in Laytonsville, MD. He was the fifth born son of the late Nellie Williams and John Harvey Williams. His family moved to Silver Spring, MD and Charles attended school in the District of Columbia Public School System.

Charles enlisted in the United States Army and served active duty from August 11, 1941 through November 27, 1945 while in the 15th Infantry where he was designated as one of the infamous Buffalo Soldiers. He was wounded while fighting at the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and received an honorable discharge along with the decoration of the Purple Heart Award. He later studied electronics at the Hilltop Electronics School and performed this trade for various employers. He served tenures in the Federal Government for the U.S. Government Printing Office and the National Labor Relations Board.

Charles developed a strong relationship with the Lord while first attending Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and later Van Buren United Methodist Church where he was a committed member of the senior choir.

Charles met the love of his life, Mary (Peggy) Williams, and they were married and raised their son, William, until he departed this life at the age of 18.
